Hutch is the predominant player in the GSM segment in Mumbai. Airtel is a follower. Plus, i myself have a Hutch connection. Having said that, pls note two hings:-
1) There aren't too many good options available for prepaid customers from ANY of the GSM providers. Their marketing strategy is to have as many post-paid cx's as possible.....this is in total contrast to the strategy followed by both in RoM (Rest of Maharashtra). Hutch still comes out with some decent ones though...
2) During last years' mini deluge on 4th of July, plus the train blasts, hutch, as usual, konked off.......i was able to get thru to my folks only via airtel networks. During normal times, Hutch works properly, but during emergencies (@ least the ones that i have faced) Airtel stands by your side....
Yes ! few guys would come on campus for the connections....they shoudl be here on the campus in the week starting 11th june (hopefully).
I dunno abt. CDMA connections though.

Hutch is now Vodafone. And Hutch customers didn't have as many problems as the Airtel customers. In the last 2 years, at least.
